G/T Curriculum Connection
Annual Middle School Quiz Bowl Competition
Quiz Bowl is a highly competitive academic competition sponsored not only at the state level, but specifically in SSD for 180 gifted students from  HTMS, Hellstern, and JOK Middle Schools.  Students answer both individual  toss up questions, and group questions during the bonus and lightning rounds.  Questions are primarily from English Literature, math computation, history, economics, geography, and science  Additional science questions were added to meet standards of the GT EAST STEM curriculum in gifted education.

Students attempt to answer rapidly to score team points.  Teams were hosted on Friday, Dec. 10th, by the Springdale United Methodist Church for an all day match.   Students stayed throughout the day to go through afternoon finals.  Those not advancing stayed to watch so they could increase their skill set of knowledge.  Trophies and  MVP (most valuable player) medals were given to students. A special word of thanks to GT teachers Jenny Jones (HTMS), Lacinda Files (JO Kelly), and Donna Garlington (Hellstern) for organizing this event.  Elementary licensed GT teachers served as moderators for the day.     For awards, contact jjones3@sdale.org
